Ghada (she/her) started at ICIRR in October 2021, but initially volunteered for ICIRR actions through her previous roles in organizing and working with partner organizations years before. In her role, she works with community partners to help oversee programming. She initially assisted with the Afghan Arrival program, which developed as a result of the influx of Afghan refugees coming to Illinois.
The daughter of Palestinian refugees and Irish immigrants, Ghada hails paternally from Beit Duqqo, Palestine and maternally from Cork, Ireland. She has a background in mental health and studying oppressive colonial power structures with an emphasis on decolonization. Ghada is the host and creator of the podcast "Connecting the Fragments: Palestinian Existence is More than Resistance"; an alternative media resource which derived directly from her graduate thesis and research. A grassroots organizer in the Arab and Muslim community in the Chicagoland area since 2014, Ghada is passionate about social justice and healing communities devastated by colonialism and white supremacy. In her spare time, you can catch her reading, writing, and having impromptu dance parties with her sons.
